We are on the way to Florence from Venice by a fast train at the moment and I cannot stop feeling fascinated by the beauty of the magnificent city, Venice. If I knew the city would be this beautiful, I would have booked more nights to stay here, one of the most picturesque cities I have ever been to. However, we have to leave now for our next destination, another historical mecca Florence so I would like to summarise my personal favourites of Venice to remember the beauty of the city longer and deeper. Also I hope my personal reviews can offer some ideas to people who wish to visit the unforgettable city, Venice.
1. Picturesque views with uniqueness : I cannot say I am a professional tourist but I have travelled quite many places in the world (Thanks to my husband) compare to many others. I can truly tell to anyone that Venice is one of most picturesque cities I have ever been to. Unbelievably charming and different atmosphere from anywhere else. Imagine that you are walking around the city filled by countless historical buildings and houses that have been mysteriously standing on the floating land almost a thousand year. Water is everywhere and areas are connected by small bridges. I was permanently amazed by the marvellous views and unique atmosphere. I wished alot that I could sit down and paint the views so I can remember them for ever.
2. Historical sites, buildings and monuments: I have constantly felt like I was living in thousand years back. Being around by all the beautiful palaces, churches and historical sites and monuments was absolute pleasure to me. Especially, The beauty of St. Marco and the bell tower made me speechless. I couldn't believe how the old buildings were built to survive that log years. The architecture mistary was truly enough to surprise everyone. It was unbelievably precious experience to see and feel the history of humankind.
3. No cars: There are no cars. Joking I am not joking. There are no cars in Venice centre. After we were dropped by a bus from the airport, we didn't see one car in the city. Cars are not allowed. It sounds great, doesn't it? Everyone walks everywhere without any danger from the cars. You don't have to worry as you are walking in the middle of the streets. As long as you can avoid another person who enjoys walking in the middle of the street as you, you will be just fine. Boats replace cars and all the streets are belonging to people. It gave unbelievable freedom and made me fully satisfied walking around the city. I truly enjoyed beeing in a car free zone.
4. Fantastic coffee : Who would argue about the quality of Italian coffee? As coffeeholics, we enjoyed the best coffee every day in Venice. Standing in the conner of the busy local coffee shops and drinking the fantastic taste coffee was absolutely divine. The atmospher of the shops and the deep incomparable taste of coffee made us addicted. Also, cheap price, 1.20 to 1.40 euro was bonus on the top of the taste. Definitely, I will miss it alot.
5. Vibrant city with local people and tourists: Venice is not a city for only tourists but also for their own people. Every streets are full of people, locals and tourists who enjoy being there. A thousand year of buildings are still being used as people's houses, offices, shops and hospitals. I could feel the thousand year of history is living harmoniously with current lifetime.
6. Romantic city : Venice is an extremely romantic place. The views of historical monuments that are surrounded by water makes everyone relaxed and brightened. You cannot avoid having romantic feeling towards to your partner when you are being in such a lovely atmosphere. So, if anyone looks for a place to visit with your loving ones, Venice can be the one.
7. Best place to walk around : I did enjoy walking around the city very much. It didn't matter where I intended to go or which street I had to walk to/from. Every single street was enjoyable to walk with amazing charm. All the little shops and cafés located in the old buildings attracted me constantly and little bridges that connect areas between channels were joyful to cross over. Holding hands and walking around the city was such a pleasure time.
For now, I have to say goodbye to Venice but I believe that the city will stay in my heart very long. I am closing my eyes and trying to remember the sweet time we had in Venice. As the train is go further from Venice, my heart is getting closer to the city.
"Ciao Venice! "
